Initial Thoughts: Persona 4 Golden

Finally playing this title has been a long time coming. Ever since I purchased my Vita back in November, Persona 4 Golden has been sitting on my shelf just waiting for me to finally attempt to dive into it. And boy oh boy was it ever a fight to get into it.

Persona 4 Golden starts you off with oh… three hours of cutscenes with a grand total of three battle before you can actually start getting into the action. You have very limited freedom in that period of time and honestly? It nearly completely turned me off the game. However, I told myself that I am going to try and find why this game is so popular and pushed forward.

After I finally made it into some actual gameplay, namely actually being able to be in the dungeon, I stayed there as long as I possibly could. While the first time I was in there this wasn’t very long, the second time I was in the dungeon for around 1 1/2 hours of playtime. When I can get to the actual gameplay of Persona 4 Golden I’m loving the game. Storywise though? Trying to be shoved all this stuff with characters I hardly know or have been able to spend time with? Yeah, it doesn’t make me all too interested in the plot overall.

I’m hopeful that the plot will draw me in later, but I’ve already seen in fall into a few things that really bug me about games. In particular, I recently had one instance where they were trying to figure out who someone was and I realized it within 5 seconds. It took them about 20 minutes of cutscenes spread out over a day or so to do that.
