FF5FJF-FROG% Overview

I’m not going to talk about what the fiesta is, because you can find out everything you need to know about it elsewhere, so I am going to operate under the assumption that you know everything you need to, and that you’ve played Final Fantasy V before. (There will be SPOILERS!)

I just finished my 2014 Four Job Fiesta with a final time of 15 hours and 32 minutes, which is the fastest I have ever completed the game. Near the end, during the final “boss rush” (if you can call it that), there is a boss called Halicarnassus, which likes to cast Toad on your entire party. Well, she did that to me. At the end of battle, everyone was still in the Toad status, and I had the crazy idea at that moment to try to finish the game like that. Long story short, I did. Feeling rather elated and, (shamelessly, I must admit) quite sure of myself, I decided that I should do another Fiesta attempt with an entire party of toads (I prefer frogs, so from now on I will refer to it as the Frog status) for the ENTIRE GAME.

This would be a difficult undertaking, because the Frog status actually doesn’t occur in the game for quite some time. It can also be easily cured with the relatively common item (it’s even sold in shops!) Maiden’s Kiss. In order to make this happen, I had to dig up some codes that I could use to inflict the Frog status permanently, and from the moment I have control of my character. With that out of the way…

Let’s talk a little bit about the Frog status, and why this is going to be a challenge. First, the best part about the Frog status is the sprite. And that’s probably the only good thing about it. The only spell a Frog-inflicted character can cast is “Frog”, and their attack power greatly suffers. If you want to get technical, the raw data for a Frog-Afflicted character is as follows (copied from the Toad status page in the Final Fantasy Wiki):

Defense = 0. Evade% = 0. Magic Defense = 0.

Damage = (3-Target Defense) (Strength * Level) / 128 + 2 or Monster AttackMultiplier

What that all boils down to is basically this: Frog-Afflicted characters are WEAK. They can not deal, nor sustain, a great deal of damage. There are ways around this, however, and I will explore them as I do this run.

There isn’t much more to say about it, so I’m going to go send out my registration tweet to Gilgabot, and get started!

If you’re interested in attempting to run this game with a party of Frogs/Toads, you can simply add the following codes in VBA to enable what I’ll call “FROG MODE”.

Cheats > List… > Code…
